How to Paint a Chocolate Video Game Controller with Gold Lustre Dust

Are you a video game lover? Know someone who is?

Check out this video game controller that we made with one of our special 3-part chocolate moulds and painted with gold lustre dust.

Once filled and painted, you can box up the joystick and give it as a gift. You can also use it to decorate a cake.

You can watch the step-by-step video tutorial above. I’ll add some details below.

The special mould by BWB has 3 parts which make it really easy to create perfect chocolate forms of any shape. No need to brush on thin layer after thin layer to make your chocolate shell.

Just fill the cavity with melted chocolate of your choice. It can be white, dark or milk chocolate. You can even mix it up, if you prefer. The line on the mould shows you exactly where to stop. Tap it a little to remove any air bubbles.

Place the flexible piece over the top part of the mould and join them together. Press lightly until the chocolate rises to the top.

Turn the mould over and lay it on a hard, flat surface. Gently press to make sure all the cavity is filled. Place it in the refrigerator until set. Once ready, remove the chocolate video controller from the mould.

In order to paint the joystick gold, we use gold lustre dust. While you can mix it with grain alcohol to apply wet paint, we opted for applying dry lustre dust on the controller with a brush.

You can use any brush such as a makeup brush or small paint brush. What matters is that it has soft bristles and is clean.

Start the process by dipping the tip of your brush in the lustre dust and dabbing it on the chocolate video controller in several spots. Next, spread the powder with light brush strokes.

Make sure to cover the entire surface. Once covered, gently tap the chocolate shell to remove any excess.

Note, if you want to fill the joystick with chocolate or flavored creams, be sure to do that before you paint it. We chose the color gold but you can paint yours with any color of lustre dust available.
